General Real Estate License Requirements

Meet North Dakota Real Estate Education Requirements
One of the first steps you must take in order to obtain your real estate license is to take and pass 45 hours of pre-licensing coursework. The coursework provides the preparation necessary to work as a real estate agent. With constant changes in industry trends, the coursework helps to lay a foundation for future knowledge.

Pass the North Dakota Real Estate Examination
Once you submit your paperwork in the initial stages of applying for a real estate license, you will be assigned a test identification number. This allows you to make an appointment to take the test with Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP). You can pay for your testing at this time via credit card, money order, or cashier’s check.
Two AMP testing centers are located in North Dakota in Bismarck and Fargo. The exam is administered via computer, which provides information regarding how much time you have to complete the examination. For both portions of the exam, you will be allowed 3.5 hours.
In order to be eligible for a real estate license, you must complete and pass both the national and state portions of the exam. Questions cover general topics surrounding laws, principles, math calculations, and methods.
The national portion of the real estate examination includes 100 questions that count toward your score in addition to possibly several test questions. Questions are broken down into different categories to provide a thorough overview of the real estate industry. In the question breakdown, 28 pertain to real estate agency relationships and contracts, 13 pertain to real property ownership, 14 pertain to finance, 14 pertain to real property, 10 pertain to marketing regulations, 8 pertain to property management, and 13 pertain to real estate calculations. There are also 40 questions on the exam pertaining to North Dakota’s state regulations.
Once you complete the examination, you will receive your score right away. In order to move forward in the application process, you must pass both portions of the exam. You must answer 70 questions correctly on the national portion and 30 questions correctly on the state portion. If you do not pass one portion of the exam, you only need to take the failed portion again. You must do this within the year.
Receive Real Estate Broker Sponsorship
In addition to working as a real estate agent, you must also work under the sponsorship of a real estate broker. Submit the Final Real Estate Application
In order to submit your real estate application, you must also submit a $100 application fee in addition to an $8 fee for the credit report. You must also submit your original score report to the North Dakota Real Estate Commission.
