How To Become a Real Estate Agent in Missouri
Step One: Successfully complete an approved 48-hour course

First-time licensee candidates are required to take and pass two pre-licensing courses. The 48-hour Missouri Salesperson Pre-Examination Course must be completed before the licensing exam. The 24-hour Missouri Real Estate Practice Course can then be taken after the first course, but can also be taken after the exam.
Basic Missouri Real Estate License Requirements
The state of Missouri requires that you must be 18 years of age or older in order to become a real estate agent.

What Can I Expect During the Missouri Licensing Exam?
The Missouri Real Estate Salesperson Exam is split into two parts. The first part is the Real Estate Salesperson National Exam, and the second part is the Real Estate Salesperson State Specific Exam. The national portion of the Missouri Real Estate Salesperson exam contains 100 questions, and you must answer 75 correctly to pass. You have 2.5 hours to take the Real Estate Salesperson National Exam. If you take the state-specific exam with the national portion of the exam, you have a total of 4 hours.
Where Do I Take the Salesperson Exam?
You can take the Missouri Real Estate Licensing Exam by registering with the state testing facility AMP, a PSI business. The fee for the exam is $65 if you take BOTH the National and State portion, and $62 if you take the State portion OR the National portion. You can pay by credit card when you schedule your exam online or by phone, or you can pay by personal check, cashier’s check, or money order at the test center.
How Do I Apply for My Missouri Real Estate License?
Once you have passed the exam and have met eligibility requirements, you can apply for your real estate salesperson or broker’s license. You must submit your application to the Missouri Real Estate Commission within six months of your 48-hour pre-license course completion. You can follow the instructions on the reverse side of your passing score report to apply for your salesperson’s or broker’s license.
Anyone applying for a Missouri Real Estate license is required to be fingerprinted for a Missouri and federal criminal history background check. You must contact IDEMIA (Identogo) for fingerprinting prior to making an application for licensure.
How to Contact IDEMIA (Identogo) for Fingerprinting
You must register with the Missouri Automated Criminal History Site (MACHS) at www.machs.mo.gov. You will need to provide the MREC’s four-digit registration number, 0004, to authorize the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the FBI to send the results to the Missouri Real Estate Commission.
Once registered, you will be directed to a list of fingerprinting locations available throughout the state. You will need to bring a Photo ID with you to the fingerprint site, such as a valid driver’s license, military ID or passport. The fingerprinting fee is $41.75.
